Purpose:
"It takes a village to raise a child." Create the community of an African village in your own classroom with Braima Moiwai, who grew up in a Sierra Leone village. Delight in folktales and riddles, learn to resolve conflicts in the traditional manner, discover village history and communicate through the language of drums. Students complete this residency with an understanding that we are all each others keepers.

Day 1- slide show: glimpses of village life and family structures
Day 2- role playing: family disputes and settlements
Day 3- hands-on drumming techniques: communication in a village
Day 4- folktale I: using slides to illustrate historical facts
Day 5- folktale II: stories and riddles as entertainment
