Braima uses an array of musical instruments in his solo performance for hands-on audience participation. African musical instruments such as Djembe drum, dundun, kinkine, shegureh (shekere), Kilen (log drum), dono (talking) drum are all a part of Braima's high energy performance. He uses sing-a-long songs, calls and responses and questions and answers to keep his audience engaged.

Braima shares folktales, hands-on drumming, sing-alongs, beautiful color slides and interactive games while relating his childhood stories growing up on a rice farm in rural Sierra Leone. By the end of his visit, participants would have gained a better understanding of history, music, and daily life of West African culture

Stories and Music

Do you want to listen to some stories? Learn sing-alongs, call, phrases in mende language and call & response from Sierra Leone. Listen to how a drum beat brings a story alive as Braima tells original stories from his gandma and the village griot.
Stories such as: the five baby birds in pursuit of their mother. Who is the strongest animal on land? The little boy Oboli went to save the crocodiles. Once lived a man by the name of Time etc

Workshops

Drumming circle workshop- hands-on drumming technique using Djembe, dun dun, kilen and agofo (bell)

Interactive games

· akara- clapping and stepping to the drum beat
· jiggy-jiggy-skima- wiggle-wiggle-wiggle, stop, clap and show one hand
· I have a dog- circle challenge game
· Lay lay vaa- circle dance in which students take turns in the center
